Health and Vaccination Requirements for Umrah

Staying healthy lets you focus on worship. Saudi Arabia sets health requirements for pilgrims, and a little preparation goes a long way. Always confirm current rules before you travel, as requirements can change.

Vaccinations

The meningococcal (ACWY) vaccine is typically required for pilgrims, and proof may be requested. Depending on the season and guidance, other vaccinations such as seasonal flu may be recommended. Arrange these several weeks before departure so they take effect.

Managing existing conditions

  • Carry enough prescription medication for the whole trip, in original packaging.
  • Bring a copy of your prescription or a letter from your GP.
  • Pack a basic first-aid kit with plasters, pain relief and rehydration sachets.

Staying well during Umrah

  • Drink plenty of water, especially in warmer months.
  • Use unscented sunscreen and seek shade during the hottest hours.
  • Wash hands regularly and consider a face mask in dense crowds.
  • Rest between rituals rather than exhausting yourself.

Travel insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical treatment abroad is strongly recommended. Check it covers your full trip and any existing conditions.
