Where you stay in Makkah shapes your whole trip. The closer you are to Masjid al-Haram, the less you walk in the heat and the easier it is to reach every prayer. Here is what to weigh up.
Distance from the Haram
Hotels are often described by walking time to the Haram. A hotel within 300 metres is very convenient but costs more. Hotels a little further out are cheaper and many offer shuttle buses.
Star rating and what it means
- 3 star — clean, comfortable and affordable, ideal for budget-conscious pilgrims.
- 4 star — a step up in comfort and amenities, often closer to the Haram.
- 5 star — premium hotels beside the Haram, such as those in the Clock Tower complex.
Room occupancy
Prices are usually quoted per person based on quad sharing (four to a room). Choosing double or triple occupancy raises the per-person cost but gives more space and privacy.
What else to check
- Whether breakfast or meals are included.
- Shuttle availability if the hotel is not walking distance.
- Proximity to shops and food for convenience.
