Knowing the order of the rituals before you arrive removes anxiety and lets you focus on worship. Here is the complete sequence of Umrah, step by step.
Step 1: Enter Ihram
Before crossing the Miqat, perform ghusl, wear the Ihram, and make the intention (niyyah) for Umrah. Then begin reciting the Talbiyah.
Step 2: Arrive at Masjid al-Haram
Enter the mosque with your right foot, making dua. When you see the Kaaba, raise your hands and make sincere supplication — this is a moment many pilgrims describe as unforgettable.
Step 3: Perform Tawaf
Circle the Kaaba seven times, beginning and ending at the Black Stone. Men uncover the right shoulder (Idtiba) and walk briskly in the first three circuits (Raml). Make dua freely throughout.
Step 4: Pray at Maqam Ibrahim
After Tawaf, pray two rak’ah behind Maqam Ibrahim if possible, then drink Zamzam water.
Step 5: Perform Sa’i
Walk seven times between Safa and Marwah, starting at Safa. Men jog lightly between the green markers. Each length counts as one, so seven lengths complete the Sa’i.
Step 6: Trim or shave the hair
Men shave the head (Halq) or trim it (Taqsir); women trim a fingertip length. This completes your Umrah, and you may leave the state of Ihram.
