Do women need a Mahram?
Saudi Arabia has lifted the requirement for women to travel with a male guardian for Umrah. Women can now perform Umrah individually or in a group. Many still choose to travel with family or as part of an organised group for comfort and support.
Ihram for women
There is no special garment for women in Ihram. You may wear ordinary modest clothing, provided it covers appropriately. The face and hands are not covered during Ihram, though modesty is maintained throughout.
Practical tips
- Choose loose, breathable, modest clothing suited to the season.
- Carry your own small bag for personal items during the rituals.
- Plan around menstruation — Tawaf is not performed during menstruation, so speak to your agent if timing is a concern.
- Stay hydrated and rest between rituals, especially in warmer months.
